Vision and Mission

The AI Institutes at Michigan is the connective architecture that makes the University of Michigan’s extraordinary AI ecosystem work as one for researchers, for partners and for society.

Coordinate: AIIM builds concerted efforts across Michigan’s AI institutes, centers and initiatives, amplifies their efforts, connects their communities and turns distributed institutional strength into coordinated university-wide impact. 

Transform: AIIM promotes the culture change that lets AI take root across the university, supports the removal of barriers, shifts norms and builds the ecosystem that enables our entire research community to work at the frontier.

Scale: AIIM projects Michigan’s AI leadership externally, helps our AI units capture major opportunities, enables public-private partnerships and positions Michigan as the national model for how a great research university leverages and shapes AI.
